I love dogs, and I wanted a clearer answer to a question dog owners ask all the time: “How old is my dog in human years?” Dog Age Calculator grew out of that curiosity—a small, approachable tool for understanding what an age comparison means.
I built this site for people who want to explore their dog’s age without creating an account, reading a complicated spreadsheet or guessing which formula a result came from.
Why I made this tool
“Multiply by seven” is easy to remember, but it does not explain why puppy years and adult years are treated differently in many age charts. I wanted the calculation to be visible: enter an age, choose an adult size, see the answer, and read exactly how it was produced.
The goal is a useful conversation starter for dog lovers. A number can offer perspective on the years we share with our dogs, but it cannot sum up an individual dog’s health, personality or needs.

How I approach the content
Dog Age Calculator is the publishing name for this independent project. I maintain the tool and its explanatory content under that name. It is presented from a dog enthusiast’s perspective, without claiming veterinary credentials, clinical review or institutional endorsement.
The main model uses the AKC published chart for ages 1–16, with linear interpolation between birthdays throughout the results, graphs, tables and reverse conversion. Breed suggestions select size rather than inventing a separate equation for every breed. The method guide explains the assumptions and links to relevant references, including AKC, UC Davis and AAHA.
Editorial standards and corrections
I aim to distinguish model choices from research findings, explain uncertainty, and make examples reproducible using the tool. Linked sources provide context; they are not presented as approval of this site.
When a substantive explanation or policy changes, its date is updated. A correction to an estimate or model should be reflected in the related examples and tables. If you spot an inconsistency, send the inputs and the result you expected through the feedback page. I welcome practical suggestions about clarity, accessibility and usability.
A simple experience
The current calculator performs ordinary input calculations in your browser. It has no accounts, paid features, advertising or analytics tracking in its current code. Shared URLs and email messages involve additional information handling, so the Privacy Policy explains those details rather than promising complete anonymity.
The site’s educational limits are set out in the Disclaimer. For an individual dog’s health or care, a veterinarian is the appropriate source of advice.
